Approach & Methodology

(360 x 360) x Mass x Speed / Time
What makes
information actionable?

... the twin abilities to grasp "what is" and extrapolate with an acceptable level of confidence "what will be."

Our waterfall methodology centers around five characteristics which we think key the relative value of market intelligence ...

Relevance

Accuracy

Comprehensiveness

Project-ability

Accessibility

Sources of Data
Public Domain Information
We start by collecting, reviewing, sorting and analyzing everything we can get our hands on that has been written about each StakeHolder group targeted for a research project.

Member Inputs
Through our Member Discussion Forums as well as privately channeled data, our Members are providing critical, real-time market information based on real-market experience.

Primary Research
Analysis of StakeHolder attitudes and usage analysis is a central element in each Sector Analysis research project.

Decision-makers from Law Firms, Global 1000 Companies, Accounting Firms, the Enforcement, Judiciary, Legislative, and Regulatory realms are all weighing-in with their experiences and perceptions.

Prior to fielding a survey instrument, we pre-test and revise based on personal interviews with designated thought-leaders within the relevant sector.

Additionally, by sharing the evolution of the research project in real-time here on the site, Members have an unprecedented opportunity to shape and direct our specific research efforts.

Supplier Interviews
As with all other constituent groups, we have an open channel policy and approach to suppliers.

Beginning with the opportunity for each supplier to review and comment upon their own profile in draft form, we are promoting an active and open two-way dialog.

Supplier Profiles

We're not so much peeling the onion back as working outward from the center of the onion.  In the instant case, at the onion core are the the EDD suppliers because, inherent in their array of products and services are shared problems/solutions which the market-place has legitimized.

We begin with a thorough review of public domain materials.  Next we interview each Supplier -- electronically and personally.  Then, we share a profile draft with each supplier, inviting comments and corrections.  Final drafts are assembled and, from there, we complete our comparative analysis and publish our baseline project.

Importantly, both the individual profiles and the comparative matrix are updated each month, adding in new attitude and usage data from each Sector Analysis as well as significant market developments.

Approach

Here's how we're different and why ...

1.  Our Membership structure enables us to boast that 'we have met the market and it is us.'  Where could you possibly go to find better resources and expertise?

2.  Our research projects are as alive as the marketplaces we cover.  Each research project features regular updates -- when you need market G2, it's current.

3.  While each research project is discrete -- we think that every pot should sit on its own bottom -- each project illuminates all other projects.  For example, our Sector Analysis of Law Firms is structured to provide important inputs to the our Supplier Profiles as well as to the Sector Analysis for each of the other StakeHolder groups.

4.  Our mantra is actionable information and here's how we get that done ...

Relevance is, of course, in the eye of the beholder ... or, as we've termed it, the StakeHolder.  Critical attributes of relevance include timeliness  and perspective.

We achieve timeliness by creating living research projects, mirroring the dynamic nature of the marketplaces we cover.  Subsequent to publication, each research project is updated monthly.

Perspective is achieved by creating dedicated business views centered on each StakeHolder sector.

There is not a singular view of the EDD market, there are six ...

Suppliers
Law Firms
Global 1000
Enforcement
Judiciary
Regulatory & Legislative

Our approach to ensuring accuracy is two-fold:  we seek multiple sources of data; and, we've made the entire process of research project design and execution totally transparent to the broadest possible audience, inviting our Members to audit our work in flagrante delicto and provide real-time feedback.

In respect of comprehensiveness our operative concept is depth-of-field -- by deconstructing the landscape into StakeHolder groups and researching each sector, the resulting picture provides a three-dimensional view (360 x 360).

Project-ability requires the application of three additional dimensions -- mass, speed  and time.  For market information to have utility as a predictive tool, we need to be able to distinguish among sea changes, trends and data points.

We establish a primary  longitudinal perspective by ... a) looking backwards to place events in an historical context ... and, b) design research projects to run forward, side-by-side with events.   The result is living research projects that are constantly updated and reporting out vector-like metrics to enable all of us to better project the future.

The utility of information is circumscribed by its accessibility -- if you can't get at it and easily and quickly make sense of it, the world's best data is useless.

Sometimes you just need a piece of information ... sometimes you need to manipulate data ... still other times you are seeking insight and understanding.  We have designed our site and project deliverables to accommodate all three needs and styles.

Hopefully, our hierarchical architecture is clear, intuitive, consistent and enables you to quickly find what you're looking for; when it doesn't seem that way to you, everything we do -- from deliverables to posts in Member Forums -- is fully searchable.

If you need a different cut on the research data, you'll find that the research data for each project is available in a downloadable MS Access database format.

Lastly, when it comes to making insight and understanding accessible, we like to think of that as one of our strengths as well.  Fortunately, the interactive nature of our Membership proposition provides quick and direct feedback to keep us on track.

Sector Analysis

Beyond the onion core are its various layers -- analyses of each of the StakeHolder segments.

Building on our secondary research covering each segment, the primary research tools are interviews conducted with a broad base of senior decision-makers within each StakeHolder group -- in-person, via phone, through the mail, and on-line.

Each interview is designed to to capture and report results cross-tabbed by ...

Respondent profile ... position, company size, geography

Critical sector issues ... trend identification within the sector

Critical marketplace issues ... trend identification outside the sector

Best practices ... solution deployment within the segment

Attitudes and usage ... unaided and aided awareness; perceptions of specific suppliers and other segments

All interviews share certain core questions to enable comparison across sectors; and all surveys are designed to provide inputs into all other research projects.

Before fielding, we pre-test each survey using personal interviews with designated thought-leaders within each segment.  Additionally, both pretests and results are posted on this site to enable contemporaneous feedback by our full Member base.
